Hooked on Hand Tools – Transitional Plane:
Randy Maxey gets hooked on hand tools and this time it’s a Transitional plane
This transitional plane is so named because it features a wood body but a cast-iron frame and frog for securing the plane iron. These planes are perfectly workable with their blade adjustment mechanism.
This particular plane found its way into my shop one day. I disassembled it and cleaned all the parts before reassembly. After sharpening the iron, I discovered it works as well as a metal-body plane. But, since I own mostly more modern metal planes, this one can be found sitting on a shelf in my workshop. Every once in a while, I’ll take it down and make a few shavings with it. Just for old time’s sake.
