1947 Tour of Yorkshire bicycle display

Inspired by the world’s most famous bike race, the Tour De France, Rick Uttley embarked on an extraordinary project to construct a road bike solely from wood – even the detailed brake callipers were crafted from walnut and Brazilian mahogany, whilst the brake cables were made with 4mm walnut! Other woods used included oak, beech and maple, and the venture took one year to complete. Once all the components had been assembled and the finishes applied, the bike took its rightful place within various shop windows in celebration of the tour making its debut amongst the Yorkshire hills.

Rick must have been rather tyred after all that.
